It’s not every day you get to take a work trip to the Southern Baptist Convention. This past week, four of the Dogwood team members made the journey up to Nashville, Tennessee to take part in the 2021 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting.
Traveling to the convention ended up having a dual purpose for us, however. As a marketing agency, we have been able to serve a number of Baptist organizations within the state of Alabama and beyond. Not only were many of our clients represented at the 2021 Convention, but we ourselves were representing our congregations as messengers. This year’s convention was near to our hearts as we were sent from four different Montgomery Baptist churches, including Taylor Road Baptist Church, Eastmont Baptist Church, Gateway Baptist Church, and Strong Tower at Washington Park.
At Dogwood Media Solutions, our work is able to be closely related to our faith which is an opportunity most do not have. We are humbled every day that the Lord would allow us to use our gifts to serve alongside other Baptists as we strive toward the ultimate end and make the name of Jesus Christ known.
For three of us that attended: Lauren Cumbie, Emily Jones, and Erin Roberts, this was our first time taking part in the process of voting on resolutions and motions as well as leadership roles. Although this year’s Convention was surrounded by a great deal of controversy, we were encouraged to see the way that many believers came together to worship and walk in obedience toward the calling placed on each of our lives in scripture which is the Great Commission and the Great Commandment.
As we stood in the same room as over 15,000 messengers from churches across the country, we were in awe of the fact that we may never get the chance to be in the presence of this many brothers and sisters again, this side of eternity. Though there are differences between us, we are united in Christ. Going forward, I believe I speak for the four of us when I say we look forward to being a part of this meeting again and are deeply grateful to be a part of this convention.
The 2021 Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting was a unique experience and one we do not take for granted. We are so thankful for our faith and the convention. For these four Dogwood staff members, we are also thankful to be in a work environment with other like-minded individuals whose greatest goal is to glorify God in our job and leverage everything we do for His Kingdom.
