Dogwood is made up of a group of people who are passionate about what we do and love being able to help organizations in our community succeed. This is the story of us!

Nick is our audio-video strategist and you can often find him working on projects inside his home studio, installing a new sound or video system, or brainstorming for his next video shoot. Nick has more talents than we can count and is always ready to take on whatever is thrown his way! He works hard at every task, no matter what it is. If he isn’t working, he’s likely hanging out with his wife and pups, building something new, or sipping on a cup of coffee. We are so thankful to have him as part of our team!

Nick’s Story:

Nick’s freelance work is what got Brian and Thomas’s attention. A video that he had produced for one of his clients came across Brian’s screen one day and immediately impressed him. They set up a time to get lunch to see if there might be an opportunity for Nick at Dogwood. Nick joined the team as a digital media specialist and started learning the ropes of WordPress while growing our audio and video opportunities. It wasn’t long before his role shifted to being our full-time audio and video strategist.

When Nick first started coming around, it didn’t take long for him to realize that there was something different about Dogwood. He was instantly impressed with the Dogwood team. Having a group of people that have complementary personalities makes a world of a difference in the workplace.

“That first lunch was a lot of fun just hanging out and getting to know each other and having that carry throughout the entire team makes it fun to work with the people I work with.”

Starting at Dogwood was the first time in a while that Nick had worked in an office setting with a team of people. He’s learned since starting that it’s okay and healthy to communicate difficult things with coworkers. In order to set yourself up to better the business and each individual, it helps to talk it out. Practicing that at work has helped Nick grow both professionally and personally.

When asked to describe the personality of Dogwood, Nick described in the best possible way – “business in the front, party in the back!” Though he was kidding, at least a little, there’s some truth to that statement, too. Everyone at Dogwood takes their work seriously and always wants to make sure clients are happy, but we also like to have fun. Not a day goes by that there aren’t funny conversations or GIFs sent in our office Slack channels. What is work without a little fun?

Funny Nick Story:

One of his favorite “funny” memories from his time at Dogwood was one random day when several of those in the office were having a conversation. One of our digital media specialists, Emily, always has some of the most interesting things to say. We could tell she was deep in thought when she blurted out, “Roads are so neat… how they all connect.” Though we laughed at her that day, it really is a profound thought… maybe 😉

Of course, Nick feels that video work is the most valuable service of Dogwood! On top of that though, Nick says that anything that helps clients navigate the world of social media ranks pretty high on his list of valuable services.

“Social media is a shifting minefield that could put a company on the map or burn a company to the ground. Sometimes a company can grow its following fast but sometimes it will take way longer. No one thing works for everyone. I believe the guidance we give clients is invaluable.”

The best part of Nick’s job, he says, is being able to stretch his abilities, learn new skills, and constantly push himself. Video and audio entail so many different branching jobs, and he is always progressing in some way. Working at Dogwood has allowed him to try different ideas, even if they don’t always work out. He always learns something new and grows in some way from each experience. That’s something we all should strive for!

So, to sum it up, Nick sees Dogwood as the “digital marketing mullet,” or better yet, “the complete package.” We wouldn’t disagree! Nick brings a lot of talent and personality to our team, and we are grateful to have him. If you need video or audio work done, Nick is your guy. Get to know him, and you’ll be sure to get to know Dogwood! Give us a call and let’s get started.
