ham sandwiches cut in half

Recently I posted on my personal Facebook page a no-frill announcement:

I wasn’t expecting any reactions and I definitely wasn’t expecting 23 comments about the best way to make ham sandwiches. There’s a lot of opinions on this apparently. Maybe during this quarantine time, it’s inspired some more deep thought on the subject…

Look – I know the way I make a ham sandwich isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea. I get it. I’ll share it below still. All I ask is that you do what I did and give it a chance.

Without further ado – here are some unique recipes for ham sandwiches for your perusal.

The Bobby Harris Special

Needs: Sandwich bread, mayo, cheese, peanut butter, and of course ham (any kind goes)

This sandwich recipe was designed and built by my dad. It’s my go-to and deserves your consideration! Peanut butter goes on one side, mayonnaise on the other. Put your mayo, cheese, and ham in the middle. For a twist, try toasting the bread first.

Hulk’s Hawaiian Ham Sandwiches

Needs: King’s Hawaiian Rolls, Dijon Mustard, American Cheese, Butter, Poppy Seed, and Honey Baked Ham

Preheat your over to 350 degrees. Take your Hawaiian Rolls out of the package. Do not tear them apart. Instead cut them all at once open placing the bottom on a cookie sheet with aluminum foil on it. Place slices of ham across the bottom half of the bread, dijon mustard on top, then your cheese. Place the tops of your rolls back on. Melt your butter and then spread it across the top. Sprinkle your poppy seeds and then stick it in your oven for 10-15 minutes. When it’s warm and the cheese has melted remove it from the oven and cut that rolls individually. You may want to add a little butter on top or some more poppy seeds before serving. Enjoy!

Boak’s Pepperoni & Ham Palooza

Needs: Sandwich bread, American cheese, mozzarella cheese, mayo, Italian dressing, and black forest ham, large pepperonis, Texas Pete’s hot sauce

Chad insists that this recipe is going to raise the bar for all ham sandwiches. Add your black forest ham, pepperonis, and both cheese in between your sandwich bread with a little bit of mayo and Italian dressing sprinkled on the bread. As Chad says “Grill that sucka, then add a little hot sauce on the side.”

Personally I can not wait to try this one. All the ingredients are in my next Walmart pick up order!

Trussell’s Terrific Ham Salad Sandwich

Needs: Sandwich bread, Honey Baked ham salad

I’m about to give away a big secret. Mrs. Joyce Trussell got volunteered for years to bring her famous ham salad sandwiches to all the baby showers, graduations, and more at our church. When I went to her house to go swimming or play chess with my buddy Joe, I made a discovery. Mrs.Joyce got her ham salad from the Honeybaked Ham store. Literally – drive to the store. Purchase ham salad and bring it home. To make these sandwiches place ham salad on bread. Mrs.Joyce always removed the crust to make them extra fancy. I change mine up slightly on occasion by toasting the bread, leaving the crust and adding a little bit of mayo. I hope Mrs. Joyce forgives me.

Mike’s Simple Sandwich

Needs: Sandwich bread, ham, mustard

Mike’s a simple guy and likes the basics. Take your sandwich bread and add ham and mustard. It’s like going back to grade school without the sweet note from your mom in your sack lunch. Your buddy’s not there to trade cookies with either, but it’ll bring back memories.

Now that you’ve seen all the ham sandwiches – do you have another to share? If you make one, let me know how it went!
