Have you ever wondered what it is like to manage social media accounts and other forms of digital media for multiple businesses? Our digital media specialists work each day to create and schedule content for clients just like you. We believe that we have the best in the business here at Dogwood and we wanted to give an inside scoop on what their day-to-day looks like and some of their favorite things about the job. We sat down with Sara Kate Taylor, one of our digital media specialists who’s been with Dogwood for almost a year now, and heard from her firsthand. Check out all she had to say:

What does your job entail?

Most of my job is social media management. I meet with my clients regularly, plan and work with our graphic designers to create content, schedule it out on each platform and then monitor and interact with it once it’s posted. Essentially, I get to act as the client on social media so they can focus on the services they offer as well as manage a business. In order to do this, I take a lot of time on the front end getting to know each client and their individual voice and goals.

How can social media managers help businesses?

A social media manager can help take all your ideas and make them into consistent content for your social media platforms. We make sure you stay up to date on current trends and that your content is relevant to the audience you are trying to reach. Social media can be hard to tackle when you’re running your business but a social media manager is there to take that stress away so you can better do your job!

What is your favorite part of your job?

This is a hard question, I like to be able to be creative and have autonomy while working with my clients. I also like working with all my different clients and all the different missions they have and the people they serve! Working at Dogwood with this crew of people is fun too!

My least favorite part?

Hmm, my least favorite part of my job is probably the lack of sunlight in our office haha, or the negative people on social media that we occasionally deal with for our clients. Yes, digital media specialists can even handle responding to some of those “not so ideal” social media users.

How do you stay up to date on new trends in the social media world?

Trends can be hard to follow but I like to stay in the know by following industry professionals and a wide variety of people and organizations that I think do social media really well. It’s also really easy to get caught up in trends. Trends come and go but it’s important to remember the bread and butter of your business and stay focused on the things that work for you!

How do you decide what social media platforms a business should be on?

Social media can seem daunting with all the different platforms popping up every day but remember what you do and who you serve. Who is your audience? That is a great way to help determine what platforms you should be on. Facebook is relevant to almost every age group so we always recommend it! Many of my clients perform best on Facebook. Instagram is also a must for most companies, especially those skewing slightly younger. These two are needed for almost every business. From there, we also might recommend LinkedIn, Twitter, or maybe even TikTok. For social media platforms, I would say quality over quantity.

All in all, don’t let the thought of posting on social media scare you. Posting something is better than posting nothing at all. However, if we can help manage your social media for you, give our team a call today! Our digital media specialists are ready to help grow your business and your online presence.
