Office environments have a substantial impact on a working person’s life. A bad office environment can make someone dislike their job, dread coming to work, and negatively impact their workflow. On the other hand, a positive work environment will have the exact opposite effect. When the atmosphere around you is good, it could make a working person excited to go to their job, increase their productivity as well as help them to build connections with their coworkers.
As you are probably aware, a work environment is one of the most important aspects of any job and will either make you and your business more successful or hinder your growth. One of the great things about working at Dogwood is our company’s culture and environment. The three partners, especially Brian, have made it a priority at Dogwood to facilitate both a fun and inviting space that remains professional at the same time. Having been here for a little over a year now, I wanted to share a few of the things that make working here so great.
The main reason Dogwood is such a fun place to work is the people. Each person has their own unique personality which makes it a lot of fun. For example, you never know when Sara Kate or Kristen will pull out their sarcasm and just roast you for something you say, or when Jesse will present one of his hot takes that leads to hilarious discussions. The people at Dogwood are also extremely creative and collaborative.
One of the benefits of our office is that we are all in one big room and that contributes a lot to us building relationships. We are able to understand what each person does well, what we struggle with, and how we can encourage each other through that. Now there can be downsides to working so close to one another, but that hasn’t held us back yet!
Another thing that makes our office so great is the snacks. Dogwood normally does a monthly Costco run (sometimes bi-monthly depending on how fast we go through the snacks). We always stock up on Rice Krispies Treats, Nutella, fruit, Oreos, Chips Ahoy, Goldfish, Pringles, cheese, and apple sauce. You name it, we’ve got it. We’ve learned that when you keep people fed they stay happy!
Our office also has a laid-back atmosphere that is unlike corporate offices. We try not to micromanage anyone and trust them to get their work done and do it well. When people are given that kind of trust and respect they tend to rise to the occasion. While we all work on our own regularly, we also collaborate regularly to provide a wide array of services for our clients. We understand that when we work alongside one another we are able to offer an even better website, branding package, social media plan, and more.
Dogwood, like a lot of companies, is paying more attention to what keeps employees at their company for longer. Most companies have concluded that the work environment makes the biggest impact on whether an employee stays with a company or leaves. Providing your employees with what they need to succeed is essential, whether that’s camaraderie, support, or some good snacks, the work environment is integral to building a great company culture. Dogwood so far has done a great job of building this culture through our work environment, making our office feel both welcoming and lively but also professional and focused, as it needs to be.
